Jim Wootten
Bass, Keyboards, Mandolin, Guitar, Vocals

Led Zepagain multi-instrumentalist Jim Wootten comes from a very musical family that bred many professional musicians, most notably, his father Red Wootten who played bass with Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman and Woody Herman to name a few, and his uncle and aunt, world renown recording artists Les Paul and Mary Ford who had 16 top ten hits in the 1950’s. “I feel extremely blessed to have grown up in a family that was so musically inclined. It instilled in me a love for music and inspired me to pursue my own dream of becoming a professional musician. Jim’s hallmark is his attention to detail and has played in a variety of original and cover bands over the years, mainly concentrating on tribute bands over the last 13 years.“ I particularly enjoy playing in tribute bands because of the challenge of trying to replicate an artist’s music with note for note accuracy." Jim fills the demanding role of John Paul Jones masterfully; covering bass, keyboards, mandolin, bass pedals, acoustic 6 & 12 string guitars and backing vocals. Jim’s other tribute projects include the popular southern California tributes The Long Run “Experience the Eagles" and 4 Way Street “Celebrating the Music of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young".

Derek Smith
Drums and Percussion

After receiving his degree in Illustration and Fine Art from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, Derek Smith moved back to Los Angeles in 2009 to pursue a career in the arts and music. Having played the drums since he was 12 years old and worshiping music since discovering his parent`s record collection at an early age, he figured it was a good omen when his first band`s recording sessions had him working next door to KISS and No Doubt. As he says, "It was definitely quite an honor to be sharing the same bathroom with Gene Simons and Paul Stanley." Despite a lifelong devotion to a number of bands like The Doors, The Who, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, no other band`s music quite influenced him like Led Zeppelin`s, and in particular, the drumming of John Bonham. The dichotomy in Bonham`s playing, from the ferocity with which he could attack his drums to the level of finesse, sensitivity, and discretion he could exercise, were traits that resonated greatly with Derek and connected with him in a way that no other drummer has been able to. Derek Smith has performed with Doors guitarist Robby Krieger, The Doobie Brothers, Billy Idol`s Steve Stevens, legendary bass player Phil Chen, Chas West of Foreigner and the Jason Bonham Band, Chris Wyse of The Cult, Francesco DiCosmo of Thin Lizzy and Evanesence, and many more. He maintains a website ( and YouTube channel dedicated to the work of John Bonham and other influential drummers in his life. Derek is a full-time musician and artist who lives in Los Angeles, CA.

Jimmy Sakurai

Jimmy Sakurai has been dedicating his career to tribute the one of the greatest legendary guitarist in the world, Jimmy Page for over 30 years since he was thundered by THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME in his teenage days. His band MR. JIMMY started 1994 in Tokyo,Japan and has been famous for over 3 hours show replicating perfectly each variations of the sets Led Zeppelin performed between 1968 to 1980, not only set of the songs or the outfits, but performances, characteristic solos and ad-ribs, choice of the instruments, tones and amp settings that has been studied by Jimmy Sakurai with the hardest enthusiasm and deep respect to Jimmy Page and his music.

The Atomic Punks are a tribute to early Van Halen, the David Lee Roth era. Formed in 1994, the Atomic Punks have performed well over 300 shows in places like Hollywood, CA, San Diego, CA, Las Vegas, NV, Phoenix, AZ, Scottsdale, AZ, Seattle, WA, Denver, CO, Honolulu, HI, Andover, MN, St. Louis, MO, Pittsburgh, PA, most recently Salt Lake City, UT, and most importantly, Pasadena, CA, where Van Halen started their meteoric rise to stardom.

Voted "Best Tribute Band" by LA's "Rock City News" three years in a row, the Atomic Punks have created a national following that continues to grow by leaps and bounds all the time.

In his 1997 auto-biography "Crazy from the Heat," former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth referred to the Atomic Punks as "The best tribute to Van Halen ever!" Dave cemented his admiration and appreciation for the Punks' talents by hiring original axeman Bart Walsh to play guitar on his "DLR Band" tours from 1999-2001. Bart's replacement, Brian Young, recreated Eddie Van Halen's sound and furious guitar playing so precisely, that Dave again looked to the Punks, and took the guitarist out on the road in 2002 for his national tour with fellow ex-Van Halen frontman, Sammy Hagar.

Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony performed a set with the Atomic Punks in Pasadena, CA, and said "I feel like I am back in 1982 performing with the old band!" Anthony added, "The Atomic Punks rock!" Anthony recently joined the band again on stage, at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA on January 31, 2003. He played nine Van Halen classics with the band including, "Runnin' With The Devil," "Hot For Teacher," "Somebody Get Me A Doctor," "Light Up The Sky," "You Really Got Me," "Panama," "Bottoms Up!," "Mean Street," and "On Fire."

Nationally syndicated radio host Howard Stern stated on his show, "The Atomic Punks become Van Halen. It's the total experience, they do Van Halen better than Van Halen themselves!"

Current guitarist Lance Turner is a top L.A. session player who has also toured and recorded with Giant recording artist P.O.L. and Drive Thru records recording artist Cousin Oliver. He recreates Eddie Van Halen's classic guitar sound, playing every riff and solo with as much energy and technique as Edward himself, while capturing all of the enthusiasm and flash of Ed's engaging live personality.

Original Punks members, Joe Lester (bass), and Scott Patterson (drums), make up a very formidable rhythm section, providing the same rock-solid foundation and pulse for Lance Turner and Brian Geller as Van Halen's own Michael Anthony and Alex Van Halen did for Eddie and Dave. Joe and Scott also help add all the signature backing vocals to the early Van Halen masterpieces they play.

The Atomic Punks Official Web Site at continues to grow and gets hits from all over the world, and was recently completely redesigned and relaunched, under new management.

There is one important point the band always makes clear at their shows. The Atomic Punks don't think they are Van Halen, they simply love to play old Van Halen and it shows in their amazingly realistic, power-packed stage show. No Van Halen tribute band captures the note for note performance and feel of an old show like the Atomic Punks. If you love vintage Van Halen, and wish you could experience and relive the energy the "Mighty" VH created with "Diamond" Dave behind the mic, you do not want to miss the Atomic Punks. They are the ultimate tribute to early Van Halen!
